Avalon International Air Show 2013 – Here we are on board A39-003 (33 SQN), one of five KC-30A Multi Role Tanker Transports (MRTT). These aircraft are a heavily modified Airbus A330 used for air-to-air refuelling. It consists of a tail boom and two under wing electric refuelling pods. The wing of the A330 is the same as that of the A340, and where normally the outer engines would reside the refuelling pods are mounted. The aircraft has a fuel capacity in excess of 100 tonnes. It can also carry 270 passengers and has 4 cargo compartments. These KC-30As are stationed at RAAF Amberley.
