Notice anything not quite right??............The nose gear has almost completed it's retraction cycle, while the main gears are still dangling and unmoving. After still failing to retract despite more attempts, she turned around and landed some 30 minutes later. She finally left again for SIN after midnight, some 8 hours later!!

In contrast to the then 2-weeks-old International Terminal (in the background) heralding a new era for the airport, it's the end of the road for this not-so-old but definitely-tired bird!! With titles stripped, a temporary taped-up job for the registration, and a "Boeing 747-400D MSN 26345" labelling (just ahead of the rearmost door; to facilitate the parts dismantlers?), it probably won't be long before her final flight to some far away desert to meet her fate!

Perhaps symbolic of the status of the airline industry in Japan at the moment -- with ANA "climbing all over" JAL, given the financial troubles of the latter!

On short finals to 25R shortly before massive thunderstorms hit HKG. Already, the skies to the north of the airport has turned pitch black, indicative of the ferocity of the storms that would be upon us in less than 10 minutes time!!
