One of the most unusual aircraft I have seen is the HFB 320 Hansa Jet. Grand Aire Express, a small cargo operator here @ SDF has about 8 of them in their fleet, of which only 2-3 are operational, the rest are used for spares. The most unusual feature are their forward swept wings, which supposedly adds to some aerodynamic advantages. This aircraft crashed on take-off from SUS on 30 Nov 2004.

This picture was taken by Capt. Grieder (Delta, B727), when he and his crew performed a go-around during this dreadful day in Cincinnati. The AirCanada DC9 (on fire) landed only a few seconds before this picture was taken. The DC9 performed an emergency landing on 27L (today 27), when Capt. Grieder's B727 was on short final for runway 18 (today 18R) and was then advised to go around. Photo scanned by Jan Von Wuthenau.

Getting ready for a short trip back to Bowman Field @ Louisville, Kentucky. Notice the Sabena B743 in the background; one of the last B747 revenue flights in the colors of Sabena. Sad day!

When the crew of the Sabena flight boarded the aircraft, the captain saw me with my camera and gave me the look: "Yes boy, I am in charge of this airplane and I love it." 'Good for him' I thought, someday I will be there. Sometimes I get so jeaulous, but that is what keeps us going, I think.
