(<a href="/search/photo.search?id=223249,223248,223247,223246">Photo 2 of 4</a>) Touchdown, but at a huge angle to the centreline. I can't even image what the crew are thinking at this point.

This photo in itself is a testomonial to Boeing about how tough their product is. I don't think an A-380 would fair as well, although no large airliner was meant for an approach and landing as this one. It definately show's a B-747 doing one.

Typical Boeing fan. I'm sure an A380 would do just a good a job with a competent pilot at the helm.

This goes to show that the manufacturers are able to produce a product that is stupid pilot proof! I hope these guys don't fly in the US!

Hope they dont travel in the US?... wow!! not surprised to see that... i am sure that lots of pople would have been glad to see those 3 (i dont believe they were 4...) aircrafts on sept 11th land... even as the one in the picture.... and as long as i remember.... that did not happen in HK or with HK crew.... please bear in mind the crosswinds in that airport in HK...

Well, the pictures are great, because they proof: 747s are tough, and sometimes even idiots get away..
Kai Tak is NOT hard to land on, it only requires some attention and you need to knwo what you are doing. These Guys didnt!!

F/O: Wow, look how short this runway is!
Captain: Uhhh yeah, look how wide it is...

Maybe a go around would have been better in the fist place, but in that situation full reverse and rudder please!!!!!!

That airplane should have done a go-around. Now it looks as if he'll end up off-airport, possibly going into the water. Such an awesome photo of a spectacular (and scary) crosswind landing.

That guy is probably going to go off-airport and end up in the water.

The passengers (cargo containers etc.) would not be ABLE to think anything at that moment I suppose :)

I can just imagine the passengers - Wondering why they are able to see the runway from their window!

Why is everyone talking about what the pax might be thinking when the its a cargo plane???

LEFT RUDDER! is what I think they are thinking!

Sphincter check! Pucker Factor is very close to infinite, at this point. PF is directly proportional to crosswind component, and (difficult approach + proximity of water) squared.

Even though we don't know the exact conditions at the time its hard to imagine a late wind gust at flare forcing the aircraft in to this attitude. If there was a stiff crosswind it doesn't seem to be reflected on the rudders of the parked aircraft in the foreground. To me it looks like the end result of a poorly executed approach.
