The most beautiful aircraft for a great picture ! Conducting VMU trials - the tail strike is done intentionally for testing purposes to determine the minimum speed at which the aircraft will lift off the ground.

That is a rather cool picture it must be quite intense when you are in the cockpit doing the trials as you rotate and don't lift off straight away. Nice one guys

Airbus340 is the longest aircraft i have ever seen.it seems to be even longer than the concorde.looking at the photograph one imagine the passenger capacity of the aircraft.wow!! i love travelling with lots of people.

Longer larger yeah.. don't know about smoother though! And the back of the aircraft might have some noise in it aswell ;)

How is this done... easy. The aircraft is accelerated to som 20 -30 knots below it’s calculated lift off speed ( power is sometime reduced ) and the nose is genially raised until tail contact . Upon tail contact, max power is applied and that pitch attitude is maintained until liftoff. VMU .. It is used to determine the slowest speed the plane will lift off during Part 25 certification. Usually a sacrificial object is attached like absence of wood or metal skid as to not damage the aircraft during the test.
