Although I can see the beauty in the patterns of these magnificently engineered aircrafts... I'm saddened that my own government felt the need to build such a force. Maybe if for once they would think about how their decisions will affect the rest of the worlds thoughts on our country, the effort put forth to create these, could have been put to better more productive uses.

A great bargain. Think of it, the aircraft were built and in service for more than a quarter century. They did their job. And while it is sad to see them this way in their retirement their likes will never be seen again.

Firstly, great shot. Wow - that many aircraft.

Secondly, do the pacifists not remember the Cold War? I think massive military build up, although rediculous, was better than the alternative: Soviet Control. I am not saying that the current force is justified, but this shot is of aircraft that were build in a different, more dangerous (at least overtly so) world.

You should look up Tuscon @ the google earth programm you can see lots of planes there (tomcats,Phantoms etc. etc.)

If you look on Google Earth, you can see an area where cut up B-52s sit exposed, in pieces. The Air Force left them in the open so that Soviet / Russian spy satellites could see them sitting there, to show their complaince with the SALT II treaty. It is a sad sight.

This is a good photo of the old B-52's. remember when they were flying overhead in Nam the noise they made, it was good to hear them as they meant help was near. That was a different time

Great shot, these B-52s did their duty and now they will be laid to rest because it cost too much money to maintain them all. Let me assure you tho that our tax dollars were not wasted because these aircraft kept our country safe during a very unsafe time. They will not be forgotten.

After reading all the comments from all the visitors, I'll tell you what "saddens" me; One "visitor" form the U.S.A. is "saddened" that his/her own gov't "felt the need to build such a force"; he/she no doubt thinks Jane Fonda is a patriot also! I'm also "saddened" that such "dweebs" think freedom is free!
Were it not for the "hardware" in this photograph, you may very well not have the freedom to openly make such stupid, idiotic remarks; a lot of people in this world don't, FYI !

Ignore the pacifist weenies. Gen. Curtis "Peace Through Superior Firepower" LeMay was the greatest peace activist of the Cold War. Stalin and the Evil Red Empire caused these awesome Strategic Air Command bombers to be built and deployed. They were the aluminum superfortress walls in the sky that kept us safe from those lowlife dirtbags. They packed 10 megaton H-Bombs and stayed on station in the stratosphere for 50 years. RIP mighty BUFFs and thank you for our freedom. Well done.

Awesome photograph - almost like an abstract painting. Early examples with tall tails are towards the top and right, while later clipped tail bombers are towards the bottom. To the folks that think this was a waste of money - the B-52 represents one of the all-time BEST values for the American people! Do some homework - this bird was first designed not long after World War 2. Examples STILL fly today thanks to various upgrade programs over the years. We taxpayers really got our money's worth on this one! Rest in Peace, warriors - Job Well Done.

Although "nothing lasts forever", it still makes me very sad to see them die like this... Such was their value to peace (and historical value as well) that each and every one of them should be have turned into a monument!

Great Plane, and great photo. The H model's are still in service yet today. I loved getting the opportunity to work on and around this plane while stationed at Minot AFB, ND. The plane that's older than most of it's pilots...and that got a new lease on life for more upgrades to extend its use for another 30 years. 30 more years or more on a already 50 year old model plane. Awesome!

Humanity would be lost if it didn't feel it had to fight against some form of tyranny. It's a sad reflection on the human race. We relish conflict and battle, or at least the thought of it.

To think such a force was or is required to protect freedom is tragic.
