As a military traveler I've had to land at Toncontin "International", Honduras MANY times. The approach to this very short runway is down through a draw below a ridgeline. The aircraft remains at the same radar altitude during short final. At the other end is a cliff with the All-America Highway below. Quite an approach! Great shot. Thanks for the memories.

From personal experience of landing at TGU, all's this photographer had to do was stand on one of the surrounding hills. TGU is surrounded by mountains; it is breathtaking right before you land there as you have to wrap right around a mountain side! This pictures captures this somewhat

I like this particular picture becouse this happens to be the capital of my country, plus it looks like a very short run way and the mountain in the forefront makes it look very picturesque and risky.

These photos means a lot to me. Remains every time I landed in TGU

We used to call sahsa stay at home stay alive because of the approaches they had to make between mountains.

Toncontin does not look like a very impressive airport as far as I can see from this view. But, the picture is not about the airport itself. It is about a SAHSA B-727 on final approach. And this is how a B-727 looks like from a rearview.

The aircraft catches eye immediately and leads it to the runway then on to the end of it leaving you wonder if there is enough room . captivating.

Amazing picture!

I was 5 years old when this picture was taken. I've had connecting flights through this airport and landing here is really great experience, there is just this adrenaline. This picture shows just how short the runway is and how these large aircrafts can land there without problems. Great view of the flaps elevators in position for landing.

As a foreign airline manager, I grew up in touch with airports, airlines, pilots, stewardess & travelling in general. Toncontin is an airport for excellent pilots who have good training and have the added natural ability to land in any kind of runway including short runways. Pilots who are disciplined, who love flying have no stress nor handicaps to land at Toncontin Airport. The basic problem is the negative pubblicity some non knowledgeable people give to the airport. Expert Honduran and American pilots & well trained, land without any danger. The negative pubblicity comes from people who do not have the expertise on aviation matters. The airport runaway is longer and all accidents at this airport have been mechanical failures or human mistakes.

SHE is a beautiful machine! I miss the 727.
